I (Heena) am born and raised in India, and it’s my home. Jason fell in love with India the first time he stepped into Delhi in 2010 and has always felt very close to the Indian culture, to the degree, he believes that he is more Indian than I am. Well, the jury is still out on that one!

Since 2010, together we have visited India several times, travelling and exploring the various regions in India, albeit mainly cities. Every single trip has been a mix of adventure, excitement and tranquillity.

On our return from recent travels to Mumbai and Goa (the two usually go hand in hand), we felt that our experience had been quite thought-provoking and a bit different to previous trips — something unusual and unique.

So, we’ve made a conscious decision to travel with a purpose to learn about the people, cultures and the #confusionofcultures that exist and prevail; for us confusionofcultures is about the coexistence of cultures at its best. This decision has expanded our travels and experiences to another level.

On our 2019 trip to India, we engaged in meaningful conversations with locals to get an insight into their lives and to establish what makes these places tick. We went to local markets, drank and ate at bars and restaurants enjoyed by the locals, rode the local train and metro, and celebrated the diversity these places have to offer.

Millions of Indians, many who have migrated (or are direct descendants of migrants) from other parts of India, and thousands of people from around the world call Mumbai and Goa their homes. You can check out our suggestions of historical sites, local food, bars, restaurants and clubs on our travel tips pages for Goa and Mumbai, but in order to get a truly authentic experience from a visit to either, there are three things to engage with and experience — the history, people and food. We feel when all these reasons are put together, to a degree they really define Mumbai and Goa and the #confusionofcultures that enable these places to be so unique and compelling.
