Lockdown in a foreign land

Travelling the world, exploring new places and meeting new people has always been my childhood dream. So, no wonder when Jason and I managed to save enough money to take the plunge (albeit only for a year), I couldn’t believe it was really happening.

Well, the dream was short lived, to be precise, it lasted for exactly 133 days!

Coronavirus arrived in Latin America and the countries closed their borders and decreed a lockdown — well, rightly so. If anything, the swift measures taken to manage and reduce the spread of the ghastly virus surprised me. I hadn’t heard great things about the governments of Latin American countries…let’s just say it didn’t fill me with confidence. So, to see Colombia and the neighbouring countries take such prompt actions unlike some other countries in Europe (they shall not be named and shamed here!) actually reassured me and made me feel safe. It was definitely one of the main reasons in choosing to stay put in Medellin, Colombia rather than getting on the first flight back to the UK.
